March ON!

March ON! is back. Encouraging students and staff to become more physically active this March.

March ON! is aimed at encouraging students and staff to become more physically active in March and with spring coming up it’s the perfect time increase activity levels. There is something FREE to do everyday. For a full programme of events and times available please download our FREE mobile app from appshelf.port.ac.uk. With FREE activities such as football, netball, swimming, and even pitch and putt there is something for everyone to do. We also have free usage in [email protected], an overspill gym space in Spinnaker Sports Centre, throughout the available times (please see our Classes and Studio bookings tile on the app for specific times).

March ON! will culminate with getting as many students and staff to take part in Southsea parkrun on Saturday 26 March in aid of Wear a Hat day for Brain Tumour Research. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research is allocated to this devastating disease which is why community support and involvement is so important to our organisation. Brain Tumour Research is a national charity which has a major base in the region. Our flagship Research Centre of Excellence is housed within the University of Portsmouth. Led by Professor Geoff Pilkington, the team represents the largest group of laboratory-based brain tumour scientists in UK working on pioneering and ground-breaking research to help us find a cure for this devastating disease. If you have anything purple please wear it to make you stand out, if you cannot attend but would like to donate please click on the following link. Southsea parkrun is a free timed 5k run along Southsea seafront and a great way to get active outdoors.
