Activator of the Month (October): Amelia Grubb

Congratulations to our Activator of the Month, Amelia Grubb, our Netball Activator!

Amelia has done a fantastic job during her first month as Netball Activator, helping to deliver weekly drop-in netball sessions on Tuesday evenings. Her sessions have had high regular attendance every week, with 70 students at her very first session!

Amelia also set up a successful Campus Sport Netball League consisting of six teams, which she heavily promoted alongside her regular sessions. To communicate regularly with her attendees, she also created a Facebook group to publish fixtures, updates and results, and also requested feedback to improve her sessions. Amelia has constantly shown that she can react well under pressure.

We asked Amelia about her aims as an Activator:

“My main goal is to get more people interested in and playing Netball. It’s one of the biggest female sports, yet many young girls do not have the confidence to play. I want to increase the participation of Netball, but also make sure people do not stop playing once they have left university.”

We have been incredibly impressed with Amelia this month. Thank you for your hard work Amelia!

Our Activators and Coordinators are a team of student volunteers who help to run the ‘Get Active, Stay Active‘ programme. The programme is available all year round to students and staff at the University of Portsmouth. The sessions are either free-of-charge or at reduced costs. There are over 50 sessions a week in 25 sports available – and membership is free!
