Leaders in Mobile App Technology

Sport and Recreation have been featured in a Health Club Management case study for their mobile app success

Launched in September 2014, the Sport and Recreation mobile app ‘UOP Sport‘ has rapidly gained popularity and allowed us to remain connected with our members. In a recent case study, creators of the mobile app software, Gladstone, have identified Sport and Recreation as a leading example within this technology.

The need for a mobile app was identified from various focus groups with our members, and it aligned well with our strategic aims to:

  • Engage our customers interactively
  • Allow our members to access our information more quickly
  • Enable our members to book more easily

Our mobile app enables members to book classes, courts and sessions, purchase memberships, receive important communications and more. Since its launch, over 7,300 members have downloaded the app, with up to 1,540 members a day using it.

With 80 percent of our classes now being booked through the mobile app, we have seen a huge drop with incoming enquiries over the phone. This has allowed our customer service advisors to focus on providing a better service to members.

Booking classes is the most popular use for the app, accounting for over 60 percent of sessions, followed by court bookings at over 20 percent.

It has also been an important tool for communicating with our members; the app enables us to directly message all users with important news such as facility closures or cancellations.

The app is due to be refreshed in early 2017 to help increase ease of use and effectiveness.
