Sports Awards 2017

The annual Sports Awards allow the Union and Department of Sport and Recreation to recognise students who have shown commitment to improving sport at Portsmouth over the past year.

Hundreds of students filled Portsmouth Guildhall to celebrate this year’s sporting achievements at the University of Portsmouth.

Nominees included clubs and students who have shown an incredible amount of hard work and dedication to sport at the University of Portsmouth in 2017.

Hosts for the evening were VP Sports Ben Conway and head of Sport and Recreation at the University, Paul Tilley.

Guest speaker, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, gave a passionate speech about sport which was said to have made the event ‘extra special’.

The most anticipated award of the evening was for Club Of The Year.

The Club Of The Year award was presented to Gym and Tramp for offering the best service to their members, contributing to the development and promotion of sport at Portsmouth and for significant improvement over the year.

Ben said: “This year’s Sports Awards were brilliant. The whole evening was incredibly sports focused, celebrating inclusivity in sport at Portsmouth and student achievements throughout the year.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to UPSU Events and UoP Sport and Recreation for working together to pull off an enjoyable evening for all involved. “
