Get active, team build and have fun!

Last year, over 200 members of staff were involved in Staff Sports Day. The University supports the health and wellbeing of its staff. As such, this event is agreed by the UEB. Staff are permitted to attend this event, providing there is limited impact on normal departmental functioning. Senior staff members of all departments are encouraged to support this event and allow their staff to attend as both participants or supporters.

The main aims of the event are to:

  • engage staff in an enjoyable team building exercise
  • help promote the benefits of physical activity and wellbeing
  • provide a programme of fun and traditional school sports day events
  • show appreciation to all members of staff across the University
  • break down barriers between various departments and faculties

Help raise money for charity!

Besides the charity raffle at the event, we actively encourage teams to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity – Brain Tumour Research.

After team registration, the team captain will receive further information on how to set up a Just Giving page, plus ideas on how to fundraise.

Brain Tumour Research has a dedicated Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Portsmouth which carries out groundbreaking research. Due to this important partnership, Sport and Recreation have worked year-on-year to help raise funds for this valuable cause. Over the last nine years, we’ve helped to raise £9655.68 in total. This equates to around 3.5 days of research for the charity – a day of research for the charity costs £2740.

Your generous donations will continue to drive awareness of brain tumours, which kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. For more information on Brain Tumour Research, please contact Tim on 07802 724310 or [email protected].

We’re looking for volunteers!

Alternatively, why not consider volunteering? If sports are not your forte, but you would like to be involved, Sport and Recreation are looking for volunteers to help out on the day. If you’re interested, please email [email protected] for more information.
