“Taking part in the Staff vs Students match was a fantastic experience! As a lifelong Pompey fan, it was incredible to be able to run out onto the pitch at Fratton Park and experience a full match. It’s something I’ll remember forever, even if we got beat 4-0! I raised a lot of money for charity in honour of my dad, who died from cancer the year before. I was honoured by the amount of money that my friends and family donated for this brilliant cause. I’d honestly recommend this experience to anyone.”

“I cannot recommend applying to play in the charity game enough. It’s not just about the day itself, but the build up with training, weekly matches and experiencing the team camaraderie. One of the best bits was the fact that we raised so much money for charity which is something I am very proud to have been a part of. In terms of the game, it will be something I will never forget. I’m a Pompey fan and to lead out the team as captain and play at Fratton Park was just unbelievable, especially in front of my family and friends. You do need to be committed though, it’s not just about the training but also about raising money for the chosen charities. Promote it through social media and contact family and friends and get them on board. You will not regret it!”

“The staff vs student match is a fantastic event to be involved in. Playing at Fratton Park is a great experience. I really enjoyed the build-up to the big match, getting to know the other players from around the university, training together and playing as a team. I didn’t have any clever ideas for fundraising, I just asked everyone I knew and took every opportunity to tell them of the work we were putting in to the training, and the good causes their money was going to. Setting up a JustGiving page makes it easy for people to donate online.”

Not only is this a massively enjoyable end of year event for all involved, it raises crucial funds for 2 very important charities. Brain Tumour Research is the charity partner of the University of Portsmouth Sport and Recreation department (the University is the home of the Brain Tumour Research Centre), and we regularly host charity events to help make all of their vital research possible. Pompey in the Community is affiliated with Portsmouth Football Club, who run inclusive coaching sessions, courses, education, health initiatives and community outreach schemes within the city and surrounding areas. All funds raised from the event is split 50/50 between the chosen charities.
