Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Month: Oliver Munday and Luc Howell
In his role as Football Referee Activator, Oliver recruits, deploys and supports the development of student referees. There have been a few challenges this year with recruitment and commitment. This month, Oliver has supported 7 new students in gaining their referee qualification. Oliver has assigned experienced students as their mentors in order to provide the newly qualified referees support and ensure they stay engaged with the Referee Hub. Oliver has also introduced a ‘Fair Play’ award system and process within Campus Sport, whereby the referees rate teams on their sportsmanship / fair play for weekly fixtures – winners of this award get reduced cost for entry into the next leagues. Well done Oliver!
Luc has been a credit to the Referee Hub since joining last year and completing his referee qualification. He has officiated on a range of Campus Sport leagues, and youth football fixtures, gaining a wealth of experience and not missed an allocated fixture this year. Since January, Luc has taken on the role of a referee mentor, providing support and guidance for some of our new student referees, and really impressed with his own refereeing performance this month. Keep up the good work Luc!
Interested in becoming an Activator?
Our Activators and Coordinators are a team of student volunteers who help to run the ‘Get Active, Stay Active‘ programme. The programme is available all year round to students and staff at the University of Portsmouth. The sessions are either free-of-charge or at reduced costs. There are over 50 sessions a week in 25 sports available – and membership is free!
If you’re interested in becoming an Activator for a particular sport, or want to know more about our Get Active programme, please contact email@example.com.
Interested in becoming a Referee?
Our Referee Hub is one of the many sports development opportunities available to students at the University of Portsmouth. We help qualified coaches gain valuable experience through paid roles and placements within our leagues and local communities. We also help students to gain FA Basic Referee qualifications by covering all costs. In return for a few hours of referee volunteering you’re qualified and have experience.
If you’re interested in becoming a referee, or looking to help out officiate at our matches, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
