Congratulations for our Activator of the Month, Beth Townsend!
Beth is currently in her second year at the University of Portsmouth, studying Sports Development (BSc). Prior to becoming an Activator, her involvement in badminton was for social reasons only; her course lecturer recommended her for the role due to her passion for organising events.
Beth recently organised a Racketathon event, consisting of a series of badminton drop-in sessions to help raise money for charity. Attendees were encouraged to wear green attire and donate £1 per session in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The Racketathon was a great success with over 48 attendees across three sessions, raising a total of £61.07. We were incredibly impressed with how hard Beth worked to organise and promote this event across social media.
Within her role, Beth is always helping to promote her sessions and attend any that require cover. She is always working to increase participation within badminton, and constantly looks for new ideas to engage more students in sport.
Our Activators and Coordinators are a team of student volunteers who help to run the ‘Get Active, Stay Active‘ programme. Funded by Sport England, the programme is available all year round to students and staff at the University of Portsmouth, offering over 50 sessions a week in 25 sports. Sessions are either free-of-charge or at reduced costs – and membership is free!
Interested in becoming an Activator or a Coordinator? We have some roles open for application! Want to volunteer for a specific sport? E-mail Alex Cole (email@example.com) to find out how you can be part of the team.
