Wear a Hat for Brain Tumour Research – Thursday 29th March!

It’s time to put on your silliest hat for Brain Tumour Research!

In the UK, more children and adults under the age of 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. However, this type of cancer only receives 1% of national funding.
Brain Tumour Research aims to raise at least £7 million each year to significantly accelerate progress in UK brain tumour research, making a clinical difference and improving patient outcomes.
The Department of Sport and Recreation will be taking part in ‘Wear a Hat Day’ – a UK-wide event in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

‘Wear a Hat Day’ will see thousands of people wearing big, bold and glamorous hats up and down the country! On Thursday 29th March, we want everyone at the University of Portsmouth to wear a hat to work and make a donation in aid of Brain Tumour Research. All of our staff will be wearing silly hats to encourage you – and that includes our class instructors too!

How can you get involved?

  • Attending a class? Work up a sweat in your silliest hat – our instructors will be doing the same! You can make a donation at the end of the session for a great cause.
  • Take a post-workout hat selfie using our photo booth – the best selfie will win a prize!
  • Wear a hat to work with approval from your line-manager of course! Be sure to make a donation!

You can make your donation using the donation buckets which are available in both reception areas and with class instructors.

Brain Tumour Research have a dedicated research centre of excellence at the University of Portsmouth which carries out groundbreaking research. Due to this important partnership, Sport and Recreation have worked year on year to help raise funds for this valuable cause. Over the last 10 years, we’ve helped to raise £12,483.28 in total. This equates to around 4.5 days of research for the charity – a day of research for the charity costs £2740.

Later this year, we will be holding further events in aid of Brain Tumour Research. Events will include Brain Tumour Research Fundraising Week, Charity Football Match and the Great South Run. For more information on our Brain Tumour Research events, look out for updates or email sport@port.ac.uk.
