High achieving referee selected for Ibercup in Portugal

Football Referee Activator Tom Haver has been selected to referee at the Ibercup in Portugal this summer!

Tom is 1 of 4 county referees to be selected for the European Youth Football Tournament, which saw the likes of Liverpool FC, Porto and Benfica take part last year. While out in Portugal, the referees will also be mentored by Premier League referees.

Tom has been working with Sport and Recreation for the past two years within our Referee Hub, which develops a network of skilled referees to officiate leagues at the University and in the local community. As well as being an active referee, his current role involves recruiting, mentoring and developing other student referees to officiate on our campus sport programmes and within the local community. Alongside these commitments and his studies, he is also a member of Hampshire FA‘s Referee Youth Council.

Tom’s high-achieving success this year means he has been nominated to go on the FA National Centre of Refereeing Excellence programme. We wish him all the best for his interview and trial evening in May. Tom was also nominated for Outstanding Contribution at the Sports Awards 2018, and has been nominated for Student Employee of the Year with Careers and Employability.

Tom has already been successful in securing a graduate job and will continue his role with Hampshire FA’s Youth Council and has expressed an interest in staying involved with our hub to support our student referees and the new Activator for the new year.

Sports Development Officer Rachel Robilliard says, “Tom has been integral to the development of the Referee Hub for the past two years and I will be sad to see him leave this year. We wish him the best of luck!”
