Over the past year we have been working in partnership with the University of Portsmouth Students Union to transition 24 competitive sports clubs over to Sport and Recreation. Our Sports Development team have been working in collaboration with the UPSU to transfer ownership of 24 sports clubs to Sport and Recreation.

The first big week of BUCS sport starts this week with 30 fixtures home and away. Last week saw the start of BUCS sport with the Women’s Football Club pulling off a thrilling 4-3 win away to Cardiff Met who were hotly tipped to win the league this season.

This week sees a fantastic complement of games, with 10 home games taking place at Langstone Sports Site and 7 indoor fixtures across St. Paul’s Sports Centre, Spinnaker Sports Centre and the Portsmouth Tennis Academy.

The Sports Development team have already delivered Committee training to over 230 students. Each club has a large student workforce that manages the club on a day to day basis, they recruit members, organise training and fixtures within BUCS and often raise money for charity.

In collaboration with each club, we delivered the first Give Me Sport weekend to over 2,200 students to give them a taste of what sport at university is like. Held over three days straight after Freshers Fayre new students tried a range of sports from American Football to Volleyball, Sailing to Ultimate Frisbee.

Students now have the opportunity to join one of 24 sports to continue their sporting journey while at university. For a list of our sports clubs please visit sportportsmouth.co.uk/sport.

If you would like to join one of our sports clubs there are a range of membership options for a range of clubs. You can play socially or at the highest level.
