This Girl Can week is all about celebrating women that are active in fitness and sport within the University of Portsmouth. We want to show off those ladies that are actively involved in physical activity and sport on a regular basis. It’s not about being the best, but doing your best. We want to celebrate those already active and encourage those that are looking to get involved in physical activity. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED?

FREE GYM USE

Head to St. Paul’s Gym reception, we’ll ask you for a few details and check your gym competence, then you’re good to go. Once you’ve registered the first time, you’ll just need to give your name each time you attend over the week, you can come in everyday if you want. If you’ve not used the gym before, one of our staff members can walk you through how it all works.

PARKRUN

Simply register with parkrun.org.uk if it is your first run, you’ll need to print off a barcode to allow your time to be recorded. The start line is at Speaker’s Corner, near The Briny on Southsea Esplanade. UOP Athletics club will be walking down from central campus if you require some help. The run starts at 9am so be sure to get there in plenty of time.

THIS GIRL CAN

We’re only covering a small handful of activities over the course of This Girl Can, but there is so much more you can do. In our sports clubs alone we have women participating at the highest level as well as those who just want to be part of something more. We know there are women in the gym, every morning, noon and night on a daily basis. We’re highlighting a week in our offer of activities, but This Girl Can doesn’t stop. Women don’t stop. Keep celebrating, supporting and trying new things. The This Girl Can website has over 90 physical activity and sport for you get involved in, so if you’ve not seen something you want to try make your starting point there.

WE ARE UNDEFEATABLE

If you’re looking for something else, perhaps the We Are Undefeatable campaign can help. We Are Undefeatable is a campaign supporting people with health conditions to be active through the ups and downs, celebrating every little victory. There are over 15 million people in England who live with long term health conditions, including (and not limited to): Depression and Anxiety, Asthma, Arthritis and back pain, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Multiple sclerosis and other mobility-limiting conditions
There are many ways to get moving with health conditions. And all types of activity are worth celebrating.
