Sports Scholar Laurence Willows has been selected for the January 2017 World University Winter Games.
Selections have recently been announced for the Great Britain Snowsports Team competing in the World University Winter Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan. University of Portsmouth student Laurence Willows has secured his place in the Ski Cross (SX) team.
Laurence is currently studying BSc Economics, Finance and Banking. He is a member of the England Ski Cross team and has competed in 4 Junior World Championships. He is a former England Dry slope champion and currently ranked 1st in Britain and 164th in the world.
The World University Games, otherwise known as the Universiade, is organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and takes place every two years. With 11 days of competition and over 2,500 participants from more than 50 countries, the Universiade is widely recognised as the biggest global winter multi-sports event for student-athletes. There are 6 compulsory sports, 8 compulsory disciplines and up to 3 optional sports which are broadcasted by more than 100 TV channels around the world.
The 2017 Universiade will take place from the 29 January – 08 February 2017, with Laurence’s Ski Cross event taking place on the 7th of February.
