Volunteers of the Month (February): Fraser & Sam

Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Month: Fraser Esmond & Sam Robinson!

Fraser Esmond – Football Activator and Activator of the Month (February)

As Football Activator, Fraser has engaged 64 student football teams this semester who have taken part in the Campus Sport leagues, and has also delivered the male student category of the national FA People’s Cup for an additional 8 teams this month.

Fraser is proactive and efficient, and regularly communicates with team captains to ensure they are having a good experience. He also works collaboratively with the Referee Activator to ensure our officials are supported, and as a qualified referee himself, he has stepped in to cover fixtures last minute to ensure the games have gone ahead.

Fraser is an asset to the Sport and Recreation department, and his role as Football Activator has enabled us to deliver a high quality student-focused programme throughout the entire academic year.

When asked about his Football Activator role, Fraser said:

“I really enjoy the responsibility the role brings, as the opportunity to be involved with football as much as possible is something I really enjoy! I feel that my organisational skills have definitely grown ten fold because of the role, which is something that has always been a weakness of mine!”

Well done Fraser, keep up the good work!

Sam Robinson – Referee of the Month (February)

Sam was going to complete our referee course last year but suffered an injury which meant that he had to withdraw from the course. This has made him even more motivated to return and take the course with us this year. He has shown great passion and commitment during the course as well as during his first few games.

He has covered multiple shifts, gained experience being an assistant referee on BUCS matches, officiated on youth football and carried on refereeing in our Campus Sport leagues.

Overall his performances and commitment have shown us that he has the potential to be a great referee. Well done Sam!
