Volunteers of the Month – Sam and Frank

Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Month: Sam Robinson & Frank Hampton!

Sam Robinson – Campus Sport Activator and Activator of the Month (November)

Sam has co-ordinated the Campus Sport football leagues since the beginning of the semester, engaging 64 teams & 578 students through the programme. This month has been extremely busy for Sam, with time spent communicating changes to fixtures, the generation of play-offs, attending leagues, completing administration, and dealing with discipline issues. In addition to this, he has been appointed Chair to our Student Football Management Group. The leagues take place 5 days a week, and Sam has worked hard to ensure that they run smoothly, as well as continuing his other role as a referee on one of the Campus Sport leagues.

Well done Sam lets hope for the same in semester 2, keep up the good work!

Entries to our 2019 Campus Sport leagues are now open, head to our Campus Sport page to register.

Frank Hampton – Referee of the Month (November)

Frank qualified with us last January through our referee hub and has since been keen to referee as much as possible. His passion for officiating is clear, he’s always one of the first people to provide availability for the following week. He has officiated in a wide range of different campus sport leagues, showing his understanding of the different rules. During an observation, Frank showed his strength as a referee, with excellent communication and application of the law. Finally, this month Frank completed his first game as a linesman, showing that he wants to try different areas within officiating role. Frank has also expressed a keen interest in pushing for promotion, which on his current level of performance, he will easily gain.

Well done Frank, keep up the good work!

Interested in becoming a Referee?

Our Referee Hub is one of the many sports development opportunities available to students at the University of Portsmouth. We help qualified coaches gain valuable experience through paid roles and placements within our leagues and local communities. We also help students to gain FA Basic Referee qualifications by covering all costs. In return for a few hours of referee volunteering you’re qualified and have experience.

If you’re interested in becoming a referee, or looking to help out officiate at our matches, please contact rachel.robilliard@port.ac.uk.
